What's Happening?
Lutz Horstick has been appointed to lead the capital investment division of Ärzteversorgung Westfalen-Lippe (ÄVWL) as of August 1, 2026. This appointment follows the departure of Markus Altenhoff, who stepped down due to health reasons. Horstick, who has been with
ÄVWL since 2011, previously managed the securities and loans department. His new role will encompass overseeing the securities and loan business, real estate portfolio management, technical real estate management, and ESG coordination. The ÄVWL is one of Germany's largest professional pension schemes, managing a substantial capital investment volume.
Why It's Important?
Horstick's appointment is significant for the ÄVWL, as it ensures continuity in leadership and strategic direction in capital investment. His extensive experience within the organization positions him well to manage the diverse investment portfolio, which is crucial for the financial stability and growth of the pension scheme. This leadership change is also important for the 70,000 members and beneficiaries who rely on the scheme for their retirement and disability benefits. The focus on ESG coordination reflects a growing trend in the financial sector towards sustainable investment practices.
