What's Happening?
Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I is investing £14.5 million in a new blackcurrant processing facility in Herefordshire, UK. This development, in partnership with Bevisol Ltd, aims to enhance the supply chain for Ribena by processing fruit from 33 British
growers. The facility will introduce new processing and traceability technology, creating 12 permanent and 30 seasonal jobs. This investment aligns with the UK government's farming innovation programme, which seeks to bolster the food system's resilience.
Why It's Important?
This investment represents a significant boost to the UK agricultural sector, particularly for blackcurrant growers. By localizing a key stage of Ribena's production, Suntory is strengthening its supply chain and supporting local agriculture. The move also reflects a broader trend of companies investing in local production to enhance sustainability and reduce supply chain vulnerabilities. This could lead to increased economic activity in the region and set a precedent for other companies to follow suit in localizing their production processes.
