What's Happening?
NVRO Metals Limited has entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hecla Greens Creek Mining Company, a subsidiary of Hecla Mining Company. This agreement focuses on establishing a technical and commercial framework for an industrial-scale
processing campaign. The campaign involves processing approximately 35,000 tons of Hecla tailings at the NVRO Metals Hub using the NVRO Process, a patented hydrometallurgical technology. This technology is designed to recover valuable critical and precious metals from hazardous mine tailings and smelter by-products. The MoU marks a significant milestone in the commercialization of the NVRO Process, aiming to achieve Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL9). The NVRO Metals Hub is being developed as a centralized critical minerals processing platform, supporting industrial-scale third-party processing opportunities. The acquisition of the assets comprising the Metals Hub was announced on June 10, 2026, and is expected to close in August 2026.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between NVRO Metals and Hecla Greens Creek is crucial for advancing the commercialization of the NVRO Process, which could significantly impact the critical minerals supply chain. By establishing a centralized processing hub, NVRO Metals aims to enhance the recovery of valuable metals from mine tailings, reducing environmental hazards and increasing resource efficiency. This development aligns with broader industry trends focusing on sustainable mining practices and supply chain security. The successful implementation of this technology could position NVRO Metals as a leader in the critical minerals sector, potentially reducing reliance on foreign sources and contributing to domestic supply chain resilience.
What's Next?
The MoU is conditional upon the successful completion of NVRO Metals' current production demonstration campaign and the acquisition and commissioning of the NVRO Metals Hub. These conditions must be satisfied by December 30, 2026, unless otherwise agreed. The next steps involve completing the acquisition of the Metals Hub and demonstrating the NVRO Process's capabilities on a smaller scale before scaling up to industrial levels. Stakeholders, including Hecla Greens Creek, will likely monitor the progress closely, as successful outcomes could lead to further collaborations and expansions in the critical minerals processing sector.
