What's Happening?
St. Edward's University and Austin Texas Musicians (ATXM) are co-hosting a free master class titled “Beyond the Stage: Build a Brand that Creates Revenue” on September 14. The event, held at Ragsdale Center’s
Jones Auditorium at St. Edward’s University, will feature special guest Bev Lambert, mother of country music star Miranda Lambert. Bev Lambert played a significant role in managing booking, merchandise, fan club, and retail operations for her daughter, helping to develop the connection between artist, brand, and audience. She is credited with evolving traditional tour merchandise into a broader lifestyle brand, creating opportunities for destination retail, licensing, and strategic partnerships. During the master class, Lambert will share insights on developing an authentic artist identity, strengthening fan loyalty, and converting creative concepts into sustainable business revenue. The event will also include a panel moderated by ATXM Executive Director Pat Buchta, featuring branding, design, and merchandising experts Scott Friedeck, Dorothy Nottingham, and Clint Avants. A networking reception will follow the master class.

Beyond the Headlines
The emphasis on building a sustainable brand and diversifying revenue streams for musicians reflects a broader shift in the entertainment industry. In an era where digital platforms and direct-to-fan engagement are paramount, artists are increasingly becoming entrepreneurs who must manage their brand as a business. This master class addresses the ethical dimension of empowering artists to take control of their financial futures, moving beyond reliance solely on traditional performance income. Culturally, it reinforces Austin's identity as a hub for music innovation, not just performance. The long-term implication is a more resilient and economically viable music community, where artists are equipped with the business acumen to thrive, potentially leading to a richer and more diverse cultural output. This model could also inspire educational institutions to integrate more practical business skills into arts programs.
