The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) has announced the appointment of Wyatt Waselenchuk as the head coach for the United States Men’s National University Team. This team is set to compete at the 2027 FISU Winter World University Games, which
will be held in Changchun, China, from January 13-25, 2027. Waselenchuk, currently the head coach for Minot State University, brings significant experience to the role, having previously served as an assistant coach at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games in Torino, Italy, and as the starting goaltender for the U.S. team at the 2013 FISU Winter World University Games in Trentino, Italy. His coaching tenure at Minot State has been highly successful, with an overall record of 171-21-8 and an 87.5% winning percentage, including leading the Beavers to their third ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship in 2023.

The team will play four round-robin games, with the top four teams from each pool advancing to the quarterfinals. All men's games, including the semifinals and finals, will be held at the Changchun Olympic Park Ice Arena. The ACHA is fielding a U.S. men's hockey team at the Winter World University Games for the 12th time, and the event is expected to be broadcast to over 100 countries, reaching more than 300 million viewers worldwide. Waselenchuk will now focus on team selection and strategy to ensure the U.S. team is well-prepared for the international competition.
