Linklaters has announced the hiring of Erik Haas, who previously served as the worldwide vice president of litigation at Johnson & Johnson (J&J). In his new role, Haas will join Linklaters as a partner
in their U.S. Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations group, based in New York. Haas recently departed J&J weeks after orchestrating a significant $5.5 billion settlement aimed at resolving numerous mass tort lawsuits. These lawsuits alleged that J&J’s talc-based products were responsible for causing cancer. The proposed settlement, announced in July, is intended to conclude over a decade of litigation, contingent on the participation of at least 95% of the remaining claimants. Haas initially joined J&J in November 2020, following a nearly three-decade career as a litigator at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. His move to J&J came after he had served as outside counsel for the company during his tenure at Patterson Belknap. Linklaters has also previously advised J&J in various commercial litigation matters, including antitrust and product-related disputes.
