What's Happening?
The Boston Celtics have officially re-signed Amari Williams, their 2025 No. 46 overall draft pick, to a new two-way contract. Williams, a native of Nottingham, United Kingdom, is the first British-born player in Celtics history. He initially joined the team
on a two-way contract in August 2025 and later secured a standard NBA contract in February 2026. During the previous season, Williams played 22 games for Boston, averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. In the NBA G League, he played 28 games for the Maine Celtics, achieving averages of 15.8 points, 10.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game. Williams also recorded 11 double-doubles, including a standout performance with 33 points and 16 rebounds against Capital City. His collegiate career included stints at Drexel and Kentucky, where he averaged 10.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
Why It's Important?
Re-signing Amari Williams is a strategic move for the Boston Celtics, enhancing their roster depth and flexibility. Williams' dual role between the NBA and the G League allows the Celtics to develop his skills further while providing immediate support when needed. His performance in the G League demonstrates his potential to contribute significantly to the team. This decision reflects the Celtics' commitment to nurturing talent and maintaining a competitive edge in the league. For Williams, this contract offers an opportunity to solidify his position in the NBA and continue his development under the Celtics' guidance.
What's Next?
Amari Williams is expected to split his time between the Boston Celtics and the Maine Celtics in the upcoming season. His performance will be closely monitored as he aims to secure a more permanent role with the parent club. The Celtics will likely continue to evaluate his progress and potential impact on the team's overall performance. Williams' development could influence future roster decisions and strategies as the Celtics aim to strengthen their position in the league.
