U.S. home builder confidence has fallen to its lowest point in a year, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) updated on Wednesday. The HMI dropped three points to 32 in September, with
the index for current sales conditions decreasing four points to 35 and the six-month sales expectations index falling six points to 37. The index for prospective buyer traffic remained at 23. This decline reflects deteriorating sales conditions for newly built single-family homes. The HMI, measured on a scale of 0 to 100, indicates negative sentiment when below 50, a threshold it has not crossed into positive territory since April 2024.
