What's Happening?
Small businesses in the Rochester area will have the opportunity to engage with government and defense organizations at the 6th annual Government and Defense Contracting Forum & Matchmaker. This all-day event, scheduled for next Tuesday at the Woodcliff
Hotel in Perinton, aims to facilitate connections and provide insights into contracting opportunities. The forum will feature panel discussions, training seminars in the morning, and matchmaking sessions in the afternoon. Participating buyers include major defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin, L3Harris Technologies, and Micron Technology, alongside various federal and local government agencies. The event is hosted by Congressman Joe Morelle, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, the Monroe County-Upstate NY APEX Accelerator, and the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency, in collaboration with the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development APEX.
Why It's Important?
This event is crucial for strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base and fostering economic growth at the local and national levels. By connecting small businesses with government and defense contracts, it helps diversify the supply chain, promotes innovation, and enhances the resilience of critical industries. Small businesses often bring specialized expertise and agility that can be vital for defense projects. Securing these contracts can lead to significant job creation, increased revenue for local economies, and technological advancements. For the participating defense contractors, it provides access to a broader pool of innovative suppliers, potentially leading to more efficient and cost-effective solutions. This initiative underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting national security objectives and economic development.
What's Next?
Businesses interested in participating can register onsite on the day of the event. The forum will proceed with its scheduled agenda, including keynote speeches, panel discussions on innovation funding and building connections, and matchmaking sessions. The organizers anticipate that the event will lead to new contracting opportunities for small businesses, thereby strengthening the defense industrial base. The Monroe County-Upstate NY APEX Accelerator will continue its role in bridging the gap between small businesses and major defense buyers, aiming to accelerate innovation and establish resilient supply chains. The long-term impact will be measured by the number of successful contracts awarded and the subsequent growth of participating small businesses within the government and defense sectors.
