What's Happening?
MBsand Volleyball Club is focusing on a holistic approach to youth beach volleyball training, moving beyond basic court and ball access. The club, with locations in Manhattan Beach, Long Beach, and Huntington Beach, California, aims to provide a structured
environment where young athletes, aged 10-17, can develop all-around skills. Unlike indoor volleyball, beach volleyball requires each of the two players to be proficient in passing, setting, serving, attacking, blocking, and defense. The club's methodology, developed by USA National Team-level coaches, groups players by ability and focuses on explaining techniques and correcting mistakes during practice. This approach ensures that players understand the 'why' behind each drill, fostering better on-court application. The club also offers recruiting support for athletes aspiring to play beach volleyball in college.
Why It's Important?
This emphasis on comprehensive player development is crucial for the growth of youth beach volleyball in the U.S. By ensuring young athletes master all facets of the game, MBsand is contributing to a more skilled and adaptable generation of players. This approach not only enhances individual performance but also promotes a deeper understanding of teamwork and strategy, which are vital in a two-player format. The provision of recruiting support is particularly significant, as it helps bridge the gap between high school and collegiate-level play, offering clear pathways for talented athletes. This model could serve as a benchmark for other youth sports programs, highlighting the importance of experienced coaching, tailored practice groups, and a supportive environment in fostering both athletic and personal growth.
What's Next?
MBsand Volleyball Club will continue to offer practices for boys and girls aged 10-17, with groups organized by skill level and coaching based on USA National Team-level methodology. The club plans to maintain its flexible pricing options, including drop-in rates and monthly autopay, to accommodate various family needs. They will also persist in providing recruiting support for athletes interested in college beach volleyball. The club's ongoing commitment to developing well-rounded players suggests a continued focus on both technical skills and broader athletic attributes like coordination, communication, and resilience. Future initiatives may include expanding tournament opportunities and further refining their coaching techniques based on evolving best practices in the sport.
Beyond the Headlines
The club's philosophy extends beyond just athletic prowess, aiming to instill valuable life skills such as communication, resilience, and confidence. In a sport where only two players are on the court, effective communication becomes paramount, teaching young athletes to articulate strategies and support their partners. The challenging nature of beach volleyball, with its sand-based movement and dynamic play, also fosters adaptability and problem-solving skills. Furthermore, the club's focus on individual progress, celebrating small improvements alongside major achievements, cultivates a positive learning environment that can significantly impact a young athlete's self-esteem and perseverance, qualities that are transferable far beyond the volleyball court.
