What's Happening?
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and SOURCING by Informa have announced a partnership aimed at strengthening American fashion manufacturing. Launching in September at SOURCING by Informa in New
York, the collaboration will continue into 2027. The initiative will debut at the New York Marketplace at the Javits Center, featuring CFDA-curated local manufacturers and educational programming. This partnership seeks to create direct access between local production partners and an international audience of brands, buyers, and industry leaders. The September event will include CFDA-led educational sessions and a showcase of New York City manufacturers, with plans to continue the showcase and programming in February 2027.
Why It's Important?
This partnership between CFDA and SOURCING by Informa is significant for the U.S. fashion industry as it emphasizes the importance of local manufacturing. By fostering connections between New York-based manufacturers and the global fashion marketplace, the initiative aims to preserve craftsmanship, improve speed-to-market, and create resilient supply chains. This collaboration supports the resurgence of local manufacturing, which is crucial for maintaining the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of American fashion. It also aligns with sustainability goals by reducing reliance on international production and transportation. The educational component of the partnership will provide valuable insights and resources to industry professionals, further strengthening the domestic fashion ecosystem.
