What's Happening?
MDA Space Ltd. has been awarded a $474 million contract to expand the Telesat Lightspeed low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The expansion will add 69 satellites, increasing the total from 156 to 225. This project is part of a strategic partnership
with the Canadian Department of National Defence to enhance connectivity in the Arctic region. The satellites will feature military Ka-band spectrum to support Canada's continental security objectives. MDA Space will serve as the prime contractor, with Telesat as a subcontractor, to deliver advanced communication capabilities for both commercial and defense customers.
