The University of Central Florida's (UCF) FinTech-AI Lab is collaborating with industry leaders like Equifax to develop AI-driven solutions for real-world financial challenges, including synthetic identity fraud. Graduate students in the lab are engaged
in hands-on research, applying AI and data science to tackle issues such as the fastest-growing financial crime in the United States. For instance, fintech graduate student Michael Azzi developed an address-intelligence framework that combines Google’s Gemini large language model, the Google Places API, and a rule-based risk engine to identify high-risk addresses, including virtual offices and private mailbox services. This approach aims to improve fraud detection within consumer credit files. The lab's program provides students with over a year of research experience, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry innovation.
