What's Happening?
The FDA has approved bemotrizinol (BEMT), a new sunscreen ingredient, marking the first such approval in 27 years. BEMT, also known as PARSOL® Shield, is an oil-soluble chemical filter that offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
It is lighter and more easily absorbed than traditional sunscreen ingredients, reducing the common issues of greasiness and white cast. The approval follows a streamlined process enabled by the CARES Act, which aims to expedite the introduction of new sunscreen filters.
