A extension funding round from ADB Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), along with existing investors Cento Ventures and Accion Ventures. This funding aims to bolster Finfra's growth, enhance its technology platform, and facilitate its expansion into new markets. Launched in February 2026, NextFin Asia is a collaborative effort between the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT), ADB Ventures, and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (MFA). The fund focuses on investing in early-stage tech companies that promote financial inclusion across Southeast Asia by combining acceleration support with access to investment opportunities.
Why It's Important?
This investment signifies a crucial step in expanding financial inclusion across Southeast Asia, particularly for small businesses that often face significant challenges in accessing credit. Finfra's platform provides essential infrastructure and operational capabilities, enabling lenders to efficiently launch and scale lending products. This reduces the need for financial institutions to build local operations from scratch, thereby helping them reach underserved borrowers. The embedded finance models supported by Finfra also create new avenues for businesses and digital platforms to integrate credit into existing customer journeys, offering vital working capital to small enterprises. The partnership model of NextFin Asia, combining a development bank with a fintech accelerator, sets a precedent for driving social impact through strategic investments in the fintech sector.
What's Next?
The funding will enable Finfra to continue its growth trajectory, strengthen its technological infrastructure, and expand into new markets within Southeast Asia. Finfra will also benefit from the broader NextFin Asia ecosystem, gaining access to connections with financial institutions, industry experts, and partners dedicated to advancing financial inclusion in the region. The Catapult: Inclusion SE Asia program is actively preparing for its next cohort of fintech startups, indicating a continued focus on identifying and nurturing promising companies. This ongoing support and investment are expected to further accelerate the adoption of innovative financial solutions, ultimately increasing access to capital for millions of small businesses and individuals in Southeast Asia.
Beyond the Headlines
The success of NextFin Asia's initial investment highlights a growing trend of leveraging public-private partnerships and fintech innovation to address critical development challenges, such as financial exclusion. This model demonstrates how combining acceleration support with direct capital investment can create a powerful mechanism for social impact. The emphasis on lending infrastructure and embedded finance models suggests a shift towards more integrated and accessible financial services, potentially reshaping traditional banking landscapes in emerging markets. This initiative also underscores the increasing recognition of fintech's role in achieving broader economic development goals and the importance of collaborative efforts between governments, development banks, and private sector entities to foster inclusive growth.
