What's Happening?
CBS Sports has entered into a multi-year agreement with Concacaf to secure exclusive U.S. English-language media rights for the Concacaf Champions Cup, Concacaf Central American Cup, and Concacaf Caribbean Cup. This agreement, effective from February,
designates Paramount+ as the exclusive streaming platform for all matches in these competitions through the 2030 season. The deal expands CBS Sports' portfolio in club football, providing comprehensive coverage of the region's top clubs and players. Paramount+ will stream 137 matches live each season, including all 51 Concacaf Champions Cup matches. Additionally, select matches will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network, with further coverage available on CBSSports.com and related social media channels.
Why It's Important?
This agreement significantly enhances CBS Sports' presence in the soccer broadcasting landscape, offering U.S. audiences extensive access to top-tier club competitions in the Concacaf region. By securing these rights, CBS Sports positions itself as a key player in delivering international soccer content, potentially increasing its subscriber base for Paramount+. The deal also provides a platform for showcasing regional talent and clubs, which could boost the popularity and commercial value of Concacaf competitions in the U.S. market. This move aligns with the growing interest in soccer across the United States, particularly as the country prepares to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
What's Next?
With the agreement set to begin in February, CBS Sports will likely ramp up promotional efforts to attract viewers to Paramount+ and its other platforms. The network may also explore additional partnerships or sponsorships to maximize the commercial potential of these broadcasts. As the competitions unfold, CBS Sports will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse soccer audience, potentially influencing future broadcasting strategies and rights negotiations. The success of this partnership could lead to further expansion of soccer content on CBS Sports platforms.
