What's Happening?
London-based design studio Johnson Banks has created a new marketing campaign for the 'Childhood in War' exhibition at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) London. The campaign features reimagined green toy soldiers, molded in the likeness of children, to highlight
the impact of war on young lives. The exhibition, which runs until February 2027, explores children's experiences of conflict from World War I to the present day. It includes immersive recreations of historical settings and personal artifacts, such as a teddy bear from a Holocaust survivor and a jumper from the Kindertransport. The exhibition also features contemporary stories from children in conflict zones like Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Sudan.
Why It's Important?
The exhibition sheds light on the often-overlooked impact of war on children, providing a platform for their stories and experiences. By using familiar childhood toys in its campaign, the exhibition challenges visitors to reconsider the realities behind these symbols of play. This approach aims to foster empathy and understanding, encouraging discussions about the effects of conflict on young lives. The exhibition's focus on historical and contemporary narratives highlights the ongoing nature of this issue, emphasizing the need for continued awareness and action to protect children in conflict zones.
