What's Happening?
Two sisters from Thrissur, Kanishka (13) and Ekanksha (8), have developed a successful brand called 'Aesthetic,' specializing in natural skincare and fragrance products. The business, which began as an engagement activity for Ekanksha after an accident,
now offers perfumes in various fragrances like sandalwood, bubblegum, and vanilla, alongside lip balms and soaps made with ingredients such as charcoal and shea butter. Their mother assists with raw material procurement, packaging, and transportation, while the sisters focus on product design, packaging, and marketing. Orders are primarily received through relatives, friends, and social media, with Instagram being a key promotional platform. The brand has already garnered several awards and sells over 10,000 units of perfumes and lip balms monthly, with products priced between ₹99 and ₹299. The sisters recently attended the Young Entrepreneurs’ Meet in Kozhikode, organized by the Industries department, to explore expansion opportunities and connect with other entrepreneurs.
Why It's Important?
The success of 'Aesthetic' highlights the growing potential for young entrepreneurship and the demand for natural and handmade beauty products in the market. This venture demonstrates how innovative approaches to product development and marketing, even at a young age, can lead to significant commercial success. The sisters' ability to leverage social media for promotion and their participation in entrepreneurial events underscore the evolving landscape of business development, where direct-to-consumer models and community engagement play crucial roles. Their story also serves as an inspiration for aspiring young business owners, showcasing that passion and creativity, combined with family support, can translate into a thriving enterprise. The brand's focus on natural ingredients also taps into a broader consumer trend towards health-conscious and environmentally friendly products.
What's Next?
Kanishka and Ekanksha are actively seeking to expand their business beyond their current customer base. Their participation in the Young Entrepreneurs’ Meet in Kozhikode was specifically aimed at meeting other entrepreneurs, learning from their experiences, and identifying mentors who can guide them in diversifying and developing their brand. The sisters and their mother are keen on exploring new collaborations and markets, suggesting a strategic move towards broader distribution and product line expansion. The family intends to continue supporting the children in developing their venture while ensuring their education remains a priority. Future steps may include formalizing partnerships, exploring retail opportunities beyond direct sales, and potentially expanding their product range based on market feedback and new ingredient discoveries.
Beyond the Headlines
The 'Aesthetic' brand's journey reflects a broader societal shift towards valuing artisanal and locally produced goods, especially in the beauty and wellness sectors. The emphasis on natural ingredients aligns with increasing consumer awareness regarding product safety and environmental impact. Furthermore, the sisters' entrepreneurial spirit at such a young age underscores the importance of fostering creativity and business acumen from an early stage. This initiative not only provides economic opportunities but also contributes to skill development, problem-solving abilities, and financial literacy among young individuals. The story also subtly highlights the role of family support in nurturing such ventures, creating an environment where children can explore and develop their talents into viable businesses, potentially influencing educational approaches to entrepreneurship.
