What's Happening?
DSM-Firmenich, a fragrance and flavor company, has inaugurated a new 44,000-square-foot fine fragrance space in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood. This flagship location, situated in a former luxury department store at 641 Avenue of the Americas, is intended
to consolidate the company's expertise, housing approximately 100 employees, including nine fine fragrance perfumers. The facility is designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and innovation by providing an immersive environment where clients and partners can directly engage with perfumers, explore ingredients, exchange ideas, and experience scent through various curated events, masterclasses, and creative collaborations. The space incorporates a purpose-built next-generation laboratory equipped with advanced automation and robotics, including a custom-built compounding robot named Cerberus, capable of handling up to 456 raw materials. This new technology aims to significantly enhance the lab's creative output. Additionally, the facility emphasizes sustainability through energy-efficient systems, green lab practices, waste reduction measures, and smart workstations.

The new DSM-Firmenich fine fragrance space is expected to become a central point for collaboration and innovation within the U.S. fragrance sector. The 'Open Air: Artists in Resonance' platform will launch at the location, bringing together DSM-Firmenich perfumers with diverse voices from New York's cultural landscape, including individuals from food, music, fashion, design, nightlife, spirituality, and social service. These collaborations will be interpreted through scent and presented within the new space via fragrance, film, photography, recordings, and physical artifacts. This initiative is also slated to include future exhibitions, workshops, and collaborations across DSM-Firmenich's global creative centers, suggesting a long-term commitment to integrating cultural influences into fragrance creation.
