In response, the farm has partnered with Swiss company Vestergaard to implement pesticide-infused nets. These nets, similar to those used for mosquito control in other parts of the world, kill flies within 10 to 30 minutes of contact. The nets are deployed during the spawning phase and removed after about 12 days. This initiative, supported by research from Penn State entomology professor Michael Wolfin and his team, has significantly reduced fly-related crop losses at Sher-Rockee Mushroom Farms.
