What's Happening?
Asda has entered into a multi-year partnership with technology firm Evolve to enhance internet connectivity across its 500 Express stores. This initiative aims to provide faster and more resilient connections to support payment, IT, and security systems.
The upgrade is part of Asda's strategy to expand its Express store network, with over 450 stores expected to be upgraded this year. The move comes as retailers increasingly rely on digital systems for operations such as payments and digital media. Evolve highlights that internet outages, which average 84 minutes for UK retailers, can disrupt payment systems and other services, emphasizing the importance of reliable connectivity.
Why It's Important?
The partnership between Asda and Evolve is significant as it addresses the growing dependency of retail operations on digital infrastructure. Reliable internet connectivity is crucial for maintaining seamless payment systems and ensuring customer satisfaction. As digital payments become more prevalent, with less than 30% of transactions made in cash, the need for robust IT systems is paramount. This investment not only supports Asda's growth strategy but also enhances its ability to provide consistent and reliable service, thereby strengthening customer trust and potentially increasing revenue.
