Researchers developed a proof-of-concept on the XRPL, which creates cryptographic fingerprints for datasets and records a summary value on the ledger. The system also incorporates a digitally signed credential to identify the publisher. Tests demonstrated efficient performance, with median publication times ranging from three to five seconds and data verification times of one to two seconds under controlled conditions. The BIS found that batching multiple datasets into a single ledger entry can make on-chain fees negligible, covering thousands of datasets. Crucially, only cryptographic fingerprints are recorded, ensuring the confidentiality of the underlying data. This approach can also be applied to other structured reporting formats like XBRL.
