What's Happening?
Stellantis has begun implementing InspectNTrack, a digital inspection software, to enhance fire and life safety compliance across its manufacturing plants, starting with the Chrysler Technology Center (CTC) in the U.S. Previously, the company relied on manual
processes involving printed paperwork, field forms, and Excel spreadsheets for tracking inspections of fire and life safety assets. This method was time-consuming and made it difficult for managers, such as Stellantis's fire compliance manager Jacob, to monitor compliance across various sites. The new system allows for the configuration of inspection workflows, assets, questions, and reporting, enabling workers to conduct inspections and generate reports from a single app. The CTC, which serves as Stellantis's headquarters and main research and design facility, is one of the largest buildings in the United States and is the initial site for this digital transformation.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of InspectNTrack by Stellantis signifies a critical move towards modernizing industrial safety protocols within the U.S. manufacturing sector. By digitizing fire safety compliance, Stellantis aims to significantly reduce the time spent on administrative tasks, with an estimated saving of 656 hours per month. This efficiency gain can lead to more consistent and reliable compliance, which is paramount for the safety of employees and the protection of valuable assets in large-scale facilities like the CTC. The ability to aggregate and analyze data uniformly across all sites will provide a clearer, real-time understanding of compliance status, enabling quicker decision-making and proactive risk management. This initiative also sets a precedent for other large U.S. corporations to re-evaluate and potentially upgrade their own safety compliance systems, driving a broader trend towards digital solutions in industrial safety.
What's Next?
The implementation of InspectNTrack at Stellantis is currently in its initial phase, primarily focusing on Midwest manufacturing plants, including the Chrysler Technology Center. The next steps involve expanding the use of the software to other types of Stellantis sites, such as proving grounds and research and development facilities. InspectNTrack's scalability and language localization features are expected to facilitate this broader rollout, potentially extending to international locations as well. Stellantis plans to leverage the platform's ability to create consistent corporate approaches to fire and life safety compliance by sharing established inspection templates across various locations. This phased expansion will continue to streamline compliance processes, improve data aggregation, and enhance accountability across the company's global operations.
Beyond the Headlines
This digital transformation in fire safety compliance at Stellantis reflects a growing recognition within large industrial organizations of the limitations of traditional, paper-based systems. Beyond mere efficiency, the move to a centralized, digital platform like InspectNTrack addresses deeper issues of accountability and transparency in safety management. By timestamping actions and linking them to specific users, the system fosters a culture of greater responsibility among employees. Furthermore, the ability to standardize compliance processes across diverse and geographically dispersed facilities can mitigate risks associated with inconsistent application of safety protocols. This shift also underscores the increasing role of technology in ensuring operational resilience and meeting regulatory demands in complex industrial environments, moving beyond reactive measures to proactive, data-driven safety strategies.
