What's Happening?
Two high school athletes from Hawaii, Penelope Stay and Avery Elgin, have achieved national recognition by winning gold medals at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in California.
Stay, a senior from Punahou, won the 1,500-meter run for girls aged 17 to 18, setting a personal record. Elgin, a freshman from Leilehua, claimed the high jump title for girls aged 13 to 14. Both athletes are part of the Spartan Track Club, which has had its most successful season, achieving numerous personal records and national titles. The event was a significant milestone for the athletes, marking their first out-of-state competition.
