What's Happening?
Nina Rhatigan, a student from Siena University, spent four weeks in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of a study abroad program at the Catholic University of Portugal. The program included a course on the history of Portugal, which Nina found enriching. During
her stay, she immersed herself in local culture, trying traditional foods like pastel de nata and engaging in local activities such as watching a World Cup match with locals. This experience was Nina's first solo travel in Europe, which she found both challenging and empowering.
Why It's Important?
Study abroad programs like the one Nina participated in are crucial for fostering cultural understanding and personal growth among students. They provide opportunities for students to experience different cultures firsthand, which can enhance their global awareness and adaptability. Such experiences are valuable in today's interconnected world, where employers often seek individuals with international exposure and cultural sensitivity. Nina's journey highlights the importance of stepping out of one's comfort zone to gain new perspectives and skills.
