A randomized controlled trial conducted in Australia with 60 participants has demonstrated that adhering to a low-plastic diet and using plastic-free kitchenware can significantly reduce the levels of certain plastic-associated chemicals in the human
body within as little as a week. The study, published in Nature Medicine, found that participants who strictly followed a diet of food that had not touched plastic during production or packaging, and used plastic-free kitchen items like stainless-steel pots and wooden chopping boards, experienced up to a 60 percent reduction in urine levels of three key plastic-associated chemicals: mono-n-butyl phthalate, monobenzyl phthalate, and bisphenol A. This research indicates that dietary and kitchen practices are important contributors to the body's exposure to these chemicals.
