What's Happening?
Zac and Meghan Crow have launched a new self-pour franchise, Tapster, in Denver's Lower Highland (LoHi) neighborhood. The establishment, which opened on June 26, features 54 taps offering a variety of beverages including local brews, seltzers, ciders,
cocktails, and nonalcoholic drinks. Customers can use a Tapster-branded card to pour drinks themselves, with prices charged by the ounce. The Crows, both Colorado natives and Colorado State University alumni, have infused local flavor into the venue, using Aspen wood from Cañon City for the tap wall and commissioning local artists for murals. The couple signed a 10-year lease for the 2,800-square-foot space, investing $500,000 in construction and permitting. Tapster aims to provide a social space with minimal labor requirements, utilizing technology to reduce waste and theft.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Tapster in Denver reflects a growing trend in the hospitality industry towards self-service models, which can reduce labor costs and increase customer engagement. By offering a customizable and locally influenced experience, Tapster differentiates itself from traditional franchises, potentially attracting a diverse clientele interested in unique and personalized service. This model could influence other businesses in the area to adopt similar strategies, fostering innovation in the local economy. Additionally, the focus on local products and artists supports the regional economy and cultural scene, enhancing community ties and promoting local talent.
What's Next?
As Tapster establishes itself in the Denver market, it may explore partnerships with local restaurants to offer food delivery or pickup options for patrons. The Crows plan to maintain a dynamic selection of beverages by using small kegs, encouraging repeat visits from customers eager to try new offerings. The success of this location could lead to further expansion of the Tapster franchise in other regions, potentially inspiring similar business models in the hospitality industry. The Crows' approach to customization and local integration may serve as a blueprint for future franchise developments.
