What's Happening?
Myriad Genetics has revamped its AI platform in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to improve document processing efficiency. The Salt Lake City-based company processes around 1.5 million diagnostic tests annually, requiring extensive paperwork
for revenue cycle management. Initially, Myriad's AI tool, Image Genius, faced high costs and inefficiencies. By partnering with AWS, Myriad reduced document processing time from 10 minutes to 20 seconds, significantly accelerating repayment cycles. The new platform, built on Amazon Bedrock, allows for better model selection based on speed, accuracy, and cost, enhancing Myriad's ability to manage insurance claims and prior authorizations efficiently.
Why It's Important?
The integration of advanced AI capabilities into Myriad's operations represents a significant leap in healthcare technology, particularly in streamlining administrative processes. This development not only reduces operational costs but also improves cash flow by accelerating reimbursement cycles. For the healthcare industry, such innovations can lead to more efficient patient care delivery and reduced administrative burdens. Myriad's success with AWS could encourage other healthcare providers to adopt similar technologies, potentially transforming revenue cycle management across the sector.
What's Next?
Myriad plans to expand the use of its AI tool to other business units, including oncology and mental health, by 2027. The company aims to further integrate AI and automation across its revenue cycle processes, enhancing eligibility verification, claims submission, and denial management. As Myriad continues to refine its AI capabilities, it may explore additional partnerships or technological advancements to maintain its competitive edge in the molecular diagnostics market.
