What's Happening?
Digital Extremes is celebrating TennoCon 2026 by offering permanent access to the pre-alpha 'Preludes' phase of its new fantasy action RPG, 'Soulframe'. Previously, access to 'Soulframe' was restricted to a closed testing group of randomly selected users.
However, the company has announced that anyone who registers on the official website by 12:59 PM KST on July 13 (11:59 PM ET on July 12) will gain unlimited access to the latest build of the game until its official public launch. Those who miss this deadline will have to rely on a weekly lottery system for access. 'Soulframe' is characterized by its dark fantasy world and strategic melee combat, contrasting with the fast-paced gameplay of Digital Extremes' 'Warframe'. During TennoCon 2026, new content was revealed, including the 'Warsongs' quest and the 'Vadagar' Pact, which allows players to harness enemy corruption for combat advantages.
Why It's Important?
The decision to open 'Soulframe' to a wider audience before its official launch is significant for both Digital Extremes and the gaming community. By allowing more players to experience the game early, Digital Extremes can gather valuable feedback to refine the game, potentially leading to a more polished final product. This move also helps build anticipation and a dedicated player base ahead of the official release. For players, it offers a unique opportunity to engage with a new game in its developmental stages, providing a sense of involvement in the game's evolution. The strategic shift from closed testing to broader access could set a precedent for how game developers approach pre-launch testing and community engagement.
What's Next?
Following the pre-alpha phase, Digital Extremes plans to expand 'Soulframe' to consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Major updates, such as the introduction of mounts, are scheduled for the second half of 2026. The global official launch date has yet to be announced, but the ongoing development and community feedback will likely influence the timeline. As the game progresses, players can expect more content updates and features, enhancing the overall gaming experience. The success of this pre-alpha phase could influence future marketing and development strategies for Digital Extremes and other game developers.
