What's Happening?
The WNBA is launching a new initiative as part of its 30th season celebrations, where each All-Star team will compete on behalf of a Chicago-based organization dedicated to keeping girls involved in sports. Angels Athletics, based in Homewood, is one
of the beneficiaries of this program. The initiative aims to provide charitable donations to these organizations, supporting their efforts to encourage and sustain girls' participation in sports. Team Cooper will represent Angels Athletics during the All-Star game on July 25.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by the WNBA highlights the importance of supporting grassroots organizations that promote sports participation among girls. By providing financial support and visibility, the program helps to address gender disparities in sports and encourages more girls to engage in athletic activities. This can have long-term benefits, including improved health, confidence, and leadership skills for young women. The initiative also underscores the WNBA's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
