Several leading U.S. original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are making substantial investments to expand their domestic operations and increase the production of critical electric grid components. This initiative comes as the U.S. faces a surge in electricity
demand, projected to grow by over 50% through 2050, leading to increasingly long lead times for essential equipment. Eaton is investing over $242 million to double its U.S. manufacturing capacity for customized electrical enclosures with a new facility in North Little Rock, Arkansas, expected to create over 1,200 jobs. G&W Electric is expanding its North American manufacturing footprint with a new 291,305-square-foot facility in Romeoville, Illinois, and an expansion of its existing Bolingbrook facility. Siemens is committing over $200 million to new manufacturing facilities in Pendergrass, Georgia, and Grand Prairie, Texas, creating more than 1,500 jobs. Southwire is investing $256 million to expand its Starkville, Mississippi operations, adding approximately 380,000 square feet. Additionally, Trench Group, through its HSP US company, has opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Charlotte, a $60 million investment for high-voltage transformer bushings, and Niagara Power Transformer is undertaking a $71 million expansion in Cheektowaga, New York, to increase transformer production by 50%.
