What's Happening?
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has re-established its presence in New Orleans after a two-decade absence, marking the opening of its 100th hotel worldwide. The Fairmont New Orleans is situated in the city's Central Business District, offering convenient access
to the French Quarter and Caesars Superdome. Developed by Kailas Companies and operated by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the hotel occupies 17 floors of the former Bank of New Orleans building, a 31-story landmark originally designed in 1970. The building has undergone preservation and refurbishment, maintaining its original architectural elements such as sidewalks, entry canopy, lobby floors, concrete walls, and bronze paneling. The interior design, by Rockwell Group, draws inspiration from New Orleans' diverse cultural influences and the 1970s oil boom era. The hotel features 250 guest rooms and suites, with the 29th and 30th floors offering the exclusive Fairmont Gold experience, which includes a private lounge, concierge service, and complimentary food and drink. Dining options include chef Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico Steakhouse, making its New Orleans debut, and The Café by Emeril, offering French-inspired classics with Creole and Southern influences. Additional amenities, including a rooftop pool, Bleu Perdu bar, Third Measure cocktail bar, and a 10,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, are scheduled to open in early December.
Why It's Important?

The hotel's location in the Central Business District and its proximity to major attractions like the French Quarter and Caesars Superdome are strategic, aiming to capture both leisure and business travelers. The collaboration with chef Emeril Lagasse for dining venues adds a notable culinary draw, reinforcing the city's renowned food scene. For Fairmont, this milestone opening underscores its global expansion and commitment to key U.S. markets, while also showcasing its ability to integrate modern luxury with historical preservation. The development also highlights the ongoing trend of revitalizing historic buildings for new commercial uses, contributing to urban renewal efforts.
What's Next?
The Fairmont New Orleans is set to fully unveil its amenities in early December, including its rooftop pool, various bars, and a comprehensive spa and fitness center. These additions are expected to further enhance the guest experience and attract a broader clientele. The hotel's success will likely be closely watched as a barometer for luxury tourism in New Orleans, especially given its return after a two-decade absence.
