What's Happening?
Members of the Melvins, Butthole Surfers, Big Business, and Mr. Phylzzz have come together to form a new supergroup called Gatta Morta. The band includes Buzz Osborne from the Melvins, Clinton Jacob from Mr. Phylzzz on guitar,
JD Pinkus from Butthole Surfers on bass, and Coady Willis of Big Business on drums, with all members contributing vocals. The group has released their debut EP, 'Burn Witch Burn,' featuring the lead single 'Black Hall.' The formation of Gatta Morta was inspired by Osborne's desire to create a 'solidly weird rock music' band while touring last fall. The band is currently on a North American tour with Tomahawk.
Why It's Important?
The formation of Gatta Morta is significant as it brings together influential musicians from notable bands in the rock and metal scenes, potentially attracting a diverse fan base. This collaboration could lead to innovative music that blends different styles and influences, enriching the rock genre. The release of their debut EP and the ongoing tour may boost the visibility of the band members' original groups, potentially increasing their fan base and concert attendance. Additionally, the supergroup's unique sound could inspire other musicians to explore similar collaborations, fostering creativity and diversity in the music industry.
