What's Happening?
Little Moons, a mochi ice cream maker, is revamping its supply chain to prioritize sustainability under the leadership of Louisa Dodd, the head of sustainability. The company is focusing on responsible sourcing, particularly for key ingredients like mango,
which is now sourced directly from a collective of farmers in India adhering to the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative's standards. This move is part of Little Moons' broader goal to source 80% of its ingredients from farms meeting high sustainability standards by 2030. The company is also working on creating the world's first FSA-certified cocoa supply chain.
Why It's Important?
Little Moons' efforts to integrate sustainability into its supply chain highlight the increasing importance of environmental responsibility in the food industry. By sourcing ingredients directly from sustainable farms, the company not only reduces its environmental impact but also supports fair trade practices and improves supply chain efficiency. This approach can lead to cost savings and enhanced product quality, benefiting both the company and its consumers. As sustainability becomes a key factor in consumer purchasing decisions, companies that prioritize ethical sourcing may gain a competitive advantage and influence industry standards.
