What's Happening?
Mark Mastrov, founder of 24 Hour Fitness, has introduced Founders Club, a new fitness and wellness concept set to open in Summerlin, Las Vegas, in early 2027. This US$10 million development will combine extensive strength training facilities with recovery
amenities, a medical spa, and social spaces. The 45,000 sq ft club will operate 24 hours a day, dedicating 25,000 sq ft to strength training and including specialized functional and glute training areas, as well as group exercise spaces. Over US$1 million is being invested in recovery equipment, featuring hyperbaric chambers, red light saunas, massage chairs, and cold therapy options. A separate medical spa will offer IV therapy. The club will also include a juice bar, café, DJ booth, and host social activities like run clubs and morning coffee sessions. Pre-opening memberships will range from US$59.99 to US$99.99 per month.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Founders Club signifies a significant evolution in the U.S. fitness industry, moving beyond traditional gyms to integrated wellness hubs. This development reflects a growing consumer demand for comprehensive health solutions that combine physical fitness with recovery, medical spa services, and social engagement. For the U.S. market, this trend could lead to increased competition among fitness providers, prompting others to expand their offerings to include advanced recovery technologies and medical-grade wellness services. The substantial investment in recovery equipment and the inclusion of a medical spa indicate a premiumization of the fitness experience, targeting consumers willing to pay more for holistic well-being. This model could set a new standard for luxury fitness and wellness centers across the country, impacting real estate development in urban and suburban areas.
What's Next?
Founders Club is scheduled to open in early 2027, with membership registration beginning in November 2026. Its success could influence other major fitness chains and independent gyms to adopt similar integrated wellness models, potentially leading to a broader transformation of the U.S. fitness landscape. The emphasis on recovery and medical spa services suggests a future where fitness facilities are increasingly seen as health and longevity centers rather than just places for exercise. This could also spur innovation in fitness technology and equipment, particularly in the recovery and personalized health sectors. The presence of another new fitness concept, Mark Wahlberg’s Municipal Gym, also opening in Summerlin, indicates that Las Vegas is becoming a key market for advanced wellness offerings, potentially attracting further investment and development in the region.
Beyond the Headlines
The Founders Club concept represents a deeper cultural shift towards viewing health and wellness as an all-encompassing lifestyle rather than just a routine. By integrating social spaces, medical services, and advanced recovery options, Mastrov is tapping into a desire for community and personalized care within a fitness context. This model challenges the traditional gym experience, suggesting that future wellness spaces will prioritize convenience, luxury, and a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being. It also highlights the increasing convergence of the fitness, beauty, and medical industries, blurring the lines between these sectors. This could lead to new regulatory considerations for facilities offering both fitness and medical services, as well as a redefinition of what constitutes a 'health club' in the U.S.
