What's Happening?
American Express has announced changes to its statement credit benefit for Gold and Platinum cardholders using Resy, a restaurant reservation platform. Effective August 1, 2026, the credit will only apply to restaurants explicitly marked as eligible for the Resy credit at the time
of purchase. This change aims to provide clarity to diners, as previously, eligibility was not always clear. Amex has assured that no current Resy venues are being removed from eligibility, and more venues, including those from Tock, will be added later this year. A tool from NextCard now allows users to filter and view restaurants that are not eligible for the credit, simplifying the process for cardholders.
Why It's Important?
This adjustment is significant for American Express cardholders who frequently dine out and rely on the Resy credit as a benefit. By clarifying which restaurants are eligible, Amex aims to enhance user experience and reduce confusion. This change could influence dining choices and spending patterns among cardholders, potentially affecting restaurant patronage. For Amex, maintaining transparency and customer satisfaction is crucial in retaining its competitive edge in the credit card market, especially among premium cardholders who value dining benefits.
What's Next?
Cardholders can expect an expansion of eligible venues later this year, particularly with the inclusion of Tock restaurants. This could increase the appeal of the Resy credit and potentially drive more dining activity through the platform. Amex may continue to refine its benefits to align with customer preferences and market trends, possibly introducing more features or partnerships to enhance cardholder value.
