What's Happening?
Xcel Energy has commenced construction on two significant infrastructure projects in southwest Minnesota: the Minnesota Energy Connection transmission line and the Lyon County Generating Station. These projects aim to enhance the delivery of reliable
and affordable electricity across the Upper Midwest while supporting Minnesota's transition to renewable energy. The Minnesota Energy Connection will connect up to 4,000 megawatts of new wind and solar generation to the grid, while the Lyon County Generating Station will provide 420 megawatts of natural gas peaking power to ensure reliability during peak demand and low renewable output.
