The Portland Timbers have announced the acquisition of Venezuelan international right back Ronald Hernández from Atlanta United FC. The transaction involves the Timbers trading $50,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) to Atlanta United FC, with
an additional potential payment of up to $100,000 in conditional GAM. This conditional GAM is contingent upon Hernández meeting specific performance metrics and roster-based criteria. Hernández, 28, is joining Portland in what marks his sixth season in Major League Soccer (MLS), having spent his entire prior MLS career with Atlanta United FC. During his tenure with Atlanta, he made 77 appearances, including 52 starts, contributing two goals and three assists over more than 4,300 minutes of play. Before his move to MLS, Hernández played five seasons in Europe for Stabæk Fotball in Norway and Aberdeen FC in Scotland. He also began his professional career with Zamora FC in Venezuela.
