What's Happening?
The Public Service Commission (PSC) in North Dakota has scheduled two public hearings in September for the proposed North Plains Connector power line project. This project, estimated to cost $6 billion with $3.2 billion allocated for the North Dakota portion,
will span over 240 miles across six counties in southwest North Dakota: Golden Valley, Slope, Hettinger, Oliver, Morton, and Grant. The full line will extend approximately 422 miles from Colstrip, Montana, to two endpoints in North Dakota near Center and St. Anthony. The project includes 168 miles of high-voltage direct current line and about 74 miles of 345 kilovolt transmission lines, designed for electricity flow in both directions. Grid United and Minnesota-based Allete are the joint developers, with Montana-Dakota Utilities and Minnkota Power Cooperative as potential users.
