What's Happening?
Element 25, through its subsidiary Butcherbird Operations, has entered into a binding long-term offtake agreement with OM Materials, a subsidiary of OM Holdings. This agreement covers all manganese concentrate produced at Element 25's Butcherbird Mine
in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The contract includes a take-or-pay structure and is set for an initial five-year term, with an option to extend for another five years. Pricing will be based on international manganese ore benchmarks, with adjustments for product quality and periodic market condition reviews. OM Materials has exclusive global rights to market the manganese concentrate, with limited exceptions for non-conforming material and quantities reserved for Element 25's downstream processing needs. The agreement is contingent on board approvals, project financing, and regulatory clearances.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is significant as it secures a stable, long-term offtake partner for Element 25, ensuring a consistent sales pathway for its manganese concentrate. The deal supports Element 25's Butcherbird Expansion Project, which aims to increase output to 1.1 million tonnes per annum. This expansion is crucial for meeting the growing demand for manganese, particularly in battery-grade, high-purity manganese sulphate production. The agreement also strengthens OM Materials' position in the global manganese market, providing them with exclusive rights to market the concentrate, which could enhance their market share and influence.
What's Next?
Element 25 plans to advance its Butcherbird Expansion Project, with mechanical completion and commissioning expected in the first quarter of 2027. The company will focus on securing the necessary project financing and regulatory approvals to finalize the agreement. OM Materials will begin marketing the manganese concentrate globally, potentially expanding its customer base and market reach. The successful implementation of this agreement could lead to further collaborations between the two companies, enhancing their positions in the manganese supply chain.
