What's Happening?
A24, in collaboration with OpenTable and Square, is organizing free advance screenings of the upcoming Anthony Bourdain movie 'Tony' for hospitality and food service workers. These screenings, termed 'Industry Night,' are scheduled for August 3 across
25 cities, including Austin, Phoenix, and Philadelphia. The initiative aims to honor the contributions of servers, dishwashers, line cooks, and other restaurant staff by providing them with an exclusive viewing experience. The film, set to have a limited release on August 7 and a nationwide release on August 21, features Dominic Sessa as a young Bourdain navigating the culinary world in Provincetown. Each screening will be hosted by a local chef, with notable names such as Federico Castellucci in Atlanta and Donnie Madia in Chicago participating.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by A24 highlights the significant role hospitality workers play in the food service industry, especially in the wake of challenges faced during the pandemic. By offering these screenings, A24 not only promotes the film but also acknowledges the hard work and dedication of these often underappreciated workers. The event serves as a morale booster and a gesture of appreciation, potentially fostering goodwill and strengthening community ties within the industry. It also underscores the cultural impact of Anthony Bourdain, whose legacy continues to inspire and resonate with culinary professionals and enthusiasts alike.
What's Next?
Following the advance screenings, the film 'Tony' will be released in select theaters on August 7, with a broader release planned for August 21. The response from the hospitality community to these screenings could influence future promotional strategies for films targeting niche audiences. Additionally, the success of this initiative might encourage other film distributors to adopt similar approaches, further integrating community engagement into their marketing efforts.
