Enervoxa, a Canadian climate technology company, is spearheading a project in India to extract rare earth elements from red mud, a byproduct of alumina production. Red mud, a caustic residue generated during the Bayer process, is abundant in India due to its
significant aluminium production. The project seeks to capitalize on the untapped potential of red mud, which contains rare earth elements, iron oxide, and titanium-bearing minerals. Enervoxa's proprietary process, developed over eight years, aims to recover these elements efficiently, turning an environmental liability into a valuable resource. The initiative is strategically significant for India, which holds substantial rare earth reserves but lacks the infrastructure to process them domestically. This project could reduce India's dependency on imported rare earth materials, crucial for its electric vehicle and defense industries.
