Oak Park Mall in Overland Park is set for a significant transformation as its owners, CBL Properties, have filed plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of the property. The proposal includes the construction of a 260-unit apartment building, a 120-room
hotel, and new dining and retail spaces. The redevelopment aims to rezone approximately 89 acres of the mall property. Key features of the plan include a four-story apartment complex with amenities such as pools and fire pits, and a two-story building with retail or restaurant space on the ground floor and office space above. Additionally, the proposal highlights a major expansion of The Culture House, which will incorporate theater, conference, and educational spaces into the mall. The redevelopment also envisions a new park, butterfly garden, and improved pedestrian connections. The changes are primarily focused around the areas near JCPenney and Dillard’s, currently used for parking.
