A malvertising campaign, dubbed FakeAgent, has targeted 29 organizations by exploiting a fake Claude Desktop application to distribute SectopRAT malware. The campaign involved redirecting users searching
for the Claude desktop app to a malicious artifact hosted on the legitimate Claude.ai domain. This artifact led users to download a seemingly legitimate app, which in reality installed SectopRAT, a remote access trojan designed to steal sensitive information. The attackers employed advanced anti-analysis techniques, including DLL sideloading and Ethereum blockchain-based command-and-control mechanisms, to evade detection and maintain persistence.
