An Atlanta-based company, Emrgy, has secured agreements with 48 water and irrigation districts across the United States, granting access to approximately 11,800 miles of canals for hydropower generation. This initiative leverages existing irrigation infrastructure

Emrgy's technology involves the installation of turbines in canals, which are designed to harness the flow of water to generate electricity. The company claims that this method is cost-effective as it utilizes already built infrastructure. The turbines are installed in a cassette-style manner, allowing for easy installation and removal without halting water flow.
