What's Happening?
Chris Sorensen, co-founder of the national sandwich chain Firehouse Subs, passed away at the age of 65. Sorensen, a former Jacksonville firefighter, co-founded the restaurant with his younger brother, Robin, in 1994. The brothers started Firehouse Subs with less
than $100 in their checking accounts and grew the brand to over 1,200 locations with more than $1 billion in annual sales before selling it to Restaurant Brands International in 2021 for $1 billion. Sorensen was known for his creative vision, which shaped the firehouse-themed interior of the restaurants, including custom murals reflecting local fire and police services. He also co-founded the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in 2005, which has awarded over $118 million in grants to 7,700 public safety departments in the U.S. and Canada. Sorensen's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Eric Sorensen Motor Speech Program at Brooks Rehabilitation or the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
