What's Happening?
Hyundai Motor Brasil has introduced the i20 as its third domestically produced model at the Piracicaba plant in São Paulo. Positioned between the HB20 hatchback and the Creta SUV, the i20 caters to Brazil's growing demand for vehicles that bridge the gap
between hatchbacks and SUVs. The i20 is available in six variants, with prices ranging from BRL99,990 (US$20,000) to BRL139,990 (US$28,000). It features two 1.0-litre three-cylinder flex-fuel engines, offering both naturally aspirated and turbocharged options. The i20 also debuts Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design language in Brazil, incorporating advanced features like over-the-air software updates and the Bluelink connected-car system.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the i20 in Brazil signifies Hyundai's strategic expansion in the South American market, aiming to capture a larger share of the growing automotive segment that blends hatchback and SUV characteristics. By producing the i20 locally, Hyundai can offer competitive pricing and cater to regional preferences, potentially increasing its market penetration. The inclusion of advanced technology and safety features in the i20 reflects Hyundai's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, which could enhance brand loyalty and drive sales growth in Brazil.
