What's Happening?
Daher Aircraft aims to complete its first TBM aircraft at its new final assembly facility in Stuart, Florida, by August 2027. This announcement was made by CEO Nicolas Chabbert at the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition. The company plans to begin
operations at the Florida facility next year, with hiring already underway and employees receiving training at Daher's existing TBM production site in Tarbes, France. The Stuart facility will gradually increase production based on market demand and will supplement Daher's current TBM assembly line in France and its Kodiak production facility in Sandpoint, Idaho. Daher also intends to eventually assemble Kodiak aircraft at the Stuart location.
Why It's Important?
This strategic move by Daher to establish a TBM final assembly facility in Florida signifies a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint in the United States. It underscores the growing demand for its TBM and Kodiak aircraft in the North American market, which is a key region for business and general aviation. Localizing production can lead to reduced logistics costs, quicker delivery times for U.S. customers, and potentially create new jobs in Florida. This expansion also allows Daher to better serve its U.S. customer base and respond more agilely to market demands, strengthening its competitive position against other aircraft manufacturers. The ability to assemble both TBM and Kodiak aircraft in the U.S. provides operational flexibility and efficiency for the company.
What's Next?
Daher will focus on preparing the Stuart, Florida facility for operations next year, including completing hiring and training programs for its new workforce. Production will ramp up gradually, with the first Florida-assembled TBM expected by August 2027. The company will also continue to assess market demand to determine the output levels for the new facility. In parallel, Daher plans to integrate Kodiak aircraft assembly into the Stuart plant in the future. This expansion is expected to enhance Daher's overall production capacity and its ability to meet global demand for its turboprop aircraft.
Beyond the Headlines
Daher's investment in a U.S. assembly plant reflects a broader trend of international aerospace manufacturers establishing production capabilities closer to their major markets. This strategy can mitigate risks associated with global supply chains, currency fluctuations, and trade policies. Furthermore, having a U.S. manufacturing base can enhance Daher's appeal to government and commercial clients within the United States, potentially opening new market segments. The decision also highlights the continued vitality of the business aviation sector, with manufacturers investing in expansion to meet evolving customer needs, including specialized government missions and short-haul charter operations, as demonstrated by the growing commercial applications for TBM and Kodiak aircraft.
