Congresswoman Deborah Ross has expressed strong support for Forge Nano's significant expansion of its lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Morrisville, North Carolina. This expansion, dubbed "America's Battery Gigafactory," aims to transform
the existing 100,000-square-foot operation into a nearly 315,000-square-foot campus. The project is expected to create over 250 jobs in North Carolina and establish approximately 3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of annual battery cell manufacturing capacity. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Forge Nano, federal and state partners, and strategic industry collaborators, including Samsung SDI. Congresswoman Ross highlighted her role in bringing this expansion to fruition through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, emphasizing its potential to boost advanced manufacturing and create high-paying jobs in the region. The facility is designed to address the U.S.'s reliance on foreign-controlled supply chains for critical battery applications, particularly for defense and aerospace sectors.

The timing of the expansion is strategically aligned with new National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) battery sourcing requirements set to take effect in 2028, which will further increase the demand for secure domestic sources of advanced battery cells for defense applications. Forge Nano also plans to manufacture Samsung SDI battery cells at the facility, with Samsung SDI having a conditional procurement agreement to purchase cells starting in 2028. The companies are also working on incorporating Forge Nano's proprietary Atomic Armor technology into future Samsung SDI battery products.
