What's Happening?
The Oakland Athletics have designated right-handed pitcher Scott Barlow for assignment following a series of poor performances. Barlow, who has struggled with a 19.29 ERA in recent games, was removed from the roster before a game against the Los Angeles
Angels. In his place, the Athletics promoted first baseman Joey Meneses and left-hander Matt Krook from Triple-A Las Vegas. Meneses, who has been performing well in the minors, is expected to take on the role of designated hitter. The team also made additional roster adjustments, including transferring pitcher Luis Severino to the 60-day injured list.
Why It's Important?
This roster change is significant for the Athletics as they attempt to improve their performance mid-season. By promoting Meneses, who has shown strong batting skills in the minors, the team aims to bolster their offensive lineup. The decision to designate Barlow for assignment reflects the team's need to address pitching weaknesses. These moves could impact the Athletics' standings and competitiveness in the league, influencing their strategy and player development focus for the remainder of the season.
